Pericope: 2 Kings 6:15-19 - 15 When the servant of the man of

God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with

horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord!

What shall we do?” the servant asked.

16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us

are more than those who are with them.”

17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.”

Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw

the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

18 As the enemy came down toward him, Elisha prayed to

the Lord, “Strike this army with blindness.” So he struck them with

blindness, as Elisha had asked.

19 Elisha told them, “This is not the road and this is not the city.

Follow me, and I will lead you to the man you are looking for.” And

he led them to Samaria.

Sermon Text: 2 Kings 6:16 16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet

answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are

with them.”

Sermon Title: Who’s Got Your Back: All of Heaven

Definition of Heavenly Host

The heavenly host refers to the vast, organized army of

spiritual beings—primarily angels—who serve under God's

command, fulfilling divine purposes in worship, warfare, and

ministering to humanity. The term “host” (Hebrew: ṣābāʾ,

Greek: stratia) literally means "army" or "multitude of

organized forces," often used in military contexts.

It is frequently associated with:

• Angelic warriors (Psalm 103:20–21)

• Cosmic armies under divine authority (2 Kings 6:17)

• Worshipping multitudes (Isa6: 2 – 3; Luke 2:13–14)

• Agents of divine intervention (Hebrews 1:14)

The heavenly host is God’s spiritual strike team and praise

team—His unseen army of angels sent to protect, fight, worship,

and carry out His will in the heavenly realms and on earth.

Point 1: Fearful vs. 15, 16 - 15 When the servant of the man of

God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with

horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord!

What shall we do?” the servant asked.

16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us

are more than those who are with them.”

verse 11 and 12 - 11 This enraged the king of Aram. He summoned

his officers and demanded of them, “Tell me! Which of us is on

the side of the king of Israel?”

12 “None of us, my lord the king,” said one of his officers, “but

Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very

words you speak in your bedroom.

Hebrews 13: 6 6 So we say with confidence,

“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.

What can mere mortals do to me?” [

2 Timothy 1:7 - for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power

and love and self-control.

Psalms 23 The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want

Point 2: Prayerful vs. 17 - 17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his

eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the

servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and

chariots of fire all around Elisha.

1 John 5: 14 - 14 This is the confidence we have in

approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he

hears us.

Point 3: Believable – vs. 18-19, 23

- 18 As the enemy came down toward him, Elisha prayed to

the Lord, “Strike this army with blindness.” So he struck them with

blindness, as Elisha had asked.

19 Elisha told them, “This is not the road and this is not the city.

Follow me, and I will lead you to the man you are looking for.” And

he led them to Samaria.

verse  23 So he prepared a great feast for them, and after they had

finished eating and drinking, he sent them away, and they

returned to their master. So the bands from Aram stopped raiding

Israel’s territory.

Ephesians 6: 12 - 13 12 For our struggle is not against flesh

and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against

the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of

evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of

God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to

stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Life Application

1. Move from fear to faith

2. Activate the heavenly hosts through confession and prayer

3. Expect the supernatural to happen
