Generational Connection: From Stones to Stories

Pericope: Joshua 3:5; 4:6–7
Sermon Text: Joshua 4: 6-7
Sermon Title: Generational connection: from stones to stories
Point I: CONSECRATION PREPARES CONNECTION
Joshua 3:5“Joshua told the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.’”
Point 2: God’s got receipts
Joshua 4:6 “In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’”
God’s Receipts:
- They say, “God showed up here.”
- They say, “We didn’t cross by strength alone.”
- They say, “This didn’t happen by accident.”
Joshua 4:1–3“Take twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan…”
RECEIPTS MATTER—ESPECIALLY WHEN GOD PAID THE BILL.
Point 3: Stories transfer Faith for Fruit
Joshua 4:7“Tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord…”
Joshua 4:6–7“When your children ask… tell them…”
Tell your fruit and faith story:
- If we don’t tell the story, culture will tell another one.
- If we don’t explain sacrifice, comfort will redefine success.
- If we don’t connect generations, values get lost.
“IF WE DON’T TEACH IT, THEY WON’T KEEP IT.”
Point 4: Connection Produces Lasting Fruit
Joshua 3:5; John 15:5
And when generations stay connected:
- Faith doesn’t fade
- Resources are stewarded wisely
- Values are preserved
- Vision survives storms
This is Connected 2026:
- Souls are won when testimony is credible
- Wealth is built when stewardship is taught
- Buildings are restored when unity is protected
- Values last when generations stay connected
Life Application:
- We will consecrate before we construct and fix what the EF 2 tornado tore up
- We will make this year to be more fruitful in souls
- We will tell the story; health story, wealth story and soul story
- We will stay connected
