Atonement At-one-Moment Communion
Levi. 16:30-34 -30 because on this day atonement will be made for
you, to cleanse you. Then, before the Lord, you will be clean from all your
sins. 31 It is a day of sabbath rest, and you must deny yourselves; it is a
lasting ordinance. 32 The priest who is anointed and ordained to succeed
his father as high priest is to make atonement. He is to put on the sacred
linen garments 33 and make atonement for the Most Holy Place, for the
tent of meeting and the altar, and for the priests and all the members of the
community. 34 “This is to be a lasting ordinance for you: Atonement is to be
made once a year for all the sins of the Israelites.” And it was done, as the
Lord commanded Moses.

Offerings and Sacrifice
Blood
The theology, spirituality and history of sacrificial offerings. It’s all
connected to the blood. From grain, to animals, to people to Jesus –
sacrifices.
To you and I Roman 12:1, 2 - Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in
view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and
pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to
the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good,
pleasing and perfect will.
Meal offering Heb. 2:17-18 - 17 For this reason he had to be made like
them,[a] fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful
and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make
atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when
he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Peace offering – Eph. 2: 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the
two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,
Sin offering – 2 Cor. 5: 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us,
so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Trespass – 2 Cor. 5: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in
Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to
us the message of reconciliation.
• Priest Prep – Heb 9:11-15 - 11 But when Christ came as high priest of
the good things that are now already here,[a] he went through the
greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human
hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter
by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most
Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining[b] eternal
redemption. 13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer
sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so
that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood
of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished
to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,[c] so
that we may serve the living God! 15 For this reason Christ is the
mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive
the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom
to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
o High Priest – Heb. 10:12 - 12 But when this priest had offered
for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand
of God,
o The Altar/Cross – Lev. 17:3-9 - 3 Any Israelite who sacrifices an
ox,[a] a lamb or a goat in the camp or outside of it 4 instead of
bringing it to the entrance to the tent of meeting to present it as
an offering to the Lord in front of the tabernacle of the
Lord—that person shall be considered guilty of bloodshed; they
have shed blood and must be cut off from their people. 5 This is
so the Israelites will bring to the Lord the sacrifices they are
now making in the open fields. They must bring them to the
priest, that is, to the Lord, at the entrance to the tent of meeting
and sacrifice them as fellowship offerings. 6 The priest is to
splash the blood against the altar of the Lord at the entrance to
the tent of meeting and burn the fat as an aroma pleasing to the
Lord. 7 They must no longer offer any of their sacrifices to the
goat idols[b] to whom they prostitute themselves. This is to be a
lasting ordinance for them and for the generations to come.’
8 “Say to them: ‘Any Israelite or any foreigner residing among
them who offers a burnt offering or sacrifice 9 and does not
bring it to the entrance to the tent of meeting to sacrifice it to the
Lord must be cut off from the people of Israel.
•The Feast
o Passover – Leve. 23:5-14 - 5 The Lord’s Passover begins at
twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. 6 On the
fifteenth day of that month the Lord’s Festival of Unleavened
Bread begins; for seven days you must eat bread made without
yeast. 7 On the first day hold a sacred assembly and do no
regular work. 8 For seven days present a food offering to the
Lord. And on the seventh day hold a sacred assembly and do
no regular work.’”
Offering the Firstfruits 9 The Lord said to Moses, 10 “Speak to
the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter the land I am
going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a
sheaf of the first grain you harvest. 11 He is to wave the sheaf
before the Lord so it will be accepted on your behalf; the priest
is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath. 12 On the day you
wave the sheaf, you must sacrifice as a burnt offering to the
Lord a lamb a year old without defect, 13 together with its grain
offering of two-tenths of an ephah[a] of the finest flour mixed
with olive oil—a food offering presented to the Lord, a pleasing
aroma—and its drink offering of a quarter of a hin[b] of wine. 14
You must not eat any bread, or roasted or new grain, until the
very day you bring this offering to your God. This is to be a
lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you
live.
o Unleavened Bread – Lev. 23:6-8 - 6 On the fifteenth day of that
month the Lord’s Festival of Unleavened Bread begins; for
seven days you must eat bread made without yeast. 7 On the
first day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. 8 For
seven days present a food offering to the Lord. And on the
seventh day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work.’”
o First Fruit – Lev. 23:9-14 - 9 The Lord said to Moses, 10 “Speak
to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter the land I am
going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a
sheaf of the first grain you harvest.
This is to be a
lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you
live.
• ___ God
• Required – Ex. 22: 29 “Do not hold back offerings from
your granaries or your vats.[a] “You must give me the
firstborn of your sons.
• Neh. 10: 35 “We also assume responsibility for
bringing to the house of the Lord each year the
firstfruits of our crops and of every fruit tree.
• 2 Chr. 31: 5 As soon as the order went out, the
Israelites generously gave the firstfruits of their
grain, new wine, olive oil and honey and all that the
fields produced. They brought a great amount, a
tithe of everything.
• Results – Prov. 3:9-10 - 9 Honor the Lord with your
wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; 10 then your
barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim
over with new wine.
• 4th Sunday – Easter Resurrection Sunday
• 1 day, 1 week, 1 month promotion
o Feast Trumpets – Lev. 23:23-25 - 23 The Lord said to Moses,
24 “Say to the Israelites: ‘On the first day of the seventh month
you are to have a day of sabbath rest, a sacred assembly
commemorated with trumpet blasts. 25 Do no regular work, but
present a food offering to the Lord.’”
o Day of Atonement – Lev. 23:26-32 - 26 The Lord said to Moses,
27 “The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of
Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and deny yourselves,[d]
and present a food offering to the Lord. 28 Do not do any work
on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when
atonement is made for you before the Lord your God. 29 Those
who do not deny themselves on that day must be cut off from
their people. 30 I will destroy from among their people anyone
who does any work on that day. 31 You shall do no work at all.
This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come,
wherever you live. 32 It is a day of sabbath rest for you, and
you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of
the month until the following evening you are to observe your
sabbath.”
o Tabernacles – Lev. 23:33-44 - 33 The Lord said to Moses, 34
“Say to the Israelites: ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh month
the Lord’s Festival of Tabernacles begins, and it lasts for seven
days. 35 The first day is a sacred assembly; do no regular
work. 36 For seven days present food offerings to the Lord, and
on the eighth day hold a sacred assembly and present a food
offering to the Lord. It is the closing special assembly; do no
regular work.
o 37 (“‘These are the Lord’s appointed festivals, which you are to
proclaim as sacred assemblies for bringing food offerings to the
Lord—the burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and
drink offerings required for each day. 38 These offerings are in
addition to those for the Lord’s Sabbaths and[e] in addition to
your gifts and whatever you have vowed and all the freewill
offerings you give to the Lord.)
o 39 “‘So beginning with the fifteenth day of the seventh month,
after you have gathered the crops of the land, celebrate the
festival to the Lord for seven days; the first day is a day of
sabbath rest, and the eighth day also is a day of sabbath rest.
40 On the first day you are to take branches from luxuriant
trees—from palms, willows and other leafy trees—and rejoice
before the Lord your God for seven days. 41 Celebrate this as a
festival to the Lord for seven days each year. This is to be a
lasting ordinance for the generations to come; celebrate it in the
seventh month. 42 Live in temporary shelters for seven days:
All native-born Israelites are to live in such shelters 43 so your
descendants will know that I had the Israelites live in temporary
shelters when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the Lord your
God.’” 44 So Moses announced to the Israelites the appointed
festivals of the Lord.
• The Rest – Lev. 25:4-64 But in the seventh year the land is to have a
year of sabbath rest, a sabbath to the Lord. Do not sow your fields or
prune your vineyards. 5 Do not reap what grows of itself or harvest
the grapes of your untended vines. The land is to have a year of rest.
6 Whatever the land yields during the sabbath year will be food for
you—for yourself, your male and female servants, and the hired
worker and temporary resident who live among you,
