Study of Exodus – Walk Through the Bible
The Passover
Exodus 11:5 (NIV)
5 Every firstborn son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of
Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn son of the female
slave, who is at her hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as
well.
1 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)
7 Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened
batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has
been sacrificed.
The Power & Presence
Exodus 13:21–22 (NIV)
21 By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide
them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light,
so that they could travel by day or night. 22 Neither the pillar of
cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of
the people.
The Provision
Exodus 15:4 (NIV)
4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army
he has hurled into the sea.
The best of Pharaoh’s officers
are drowned in the Red Sea.
Exodus 15:13 (NIV)
13 In your unfailing love you will lead
the people you have redeemed.
In your strength you will guide them
to your holy dwelling.
Exodus 15:25 (NIV)
25 Then Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him
a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became
fit to drink.
There the LORD issued a ruling and instruction for them and put
them to the test.
John 6:47–50 (NIV)
47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. 48 I am
the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the
wilderness, yet they died. 50 But here is the bread that comes
down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die.
The Parade
Exodus 15:4 (NIV)
4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army
he has hurled into the sea.
The best of Pharaoh’s officers
are drowned in the Red Sea.
Exodus 15:13 (NIV)
13 In your unfailing love you will lead
the people you have redeemed.
In your strength you will guide them
to your holy dwelling.
Exodus 15:25 (NIV)
25 Then Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him
a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became
fit to drink.
There the LORD issued a ruling and instruction for them and put
them to the test.
The Panting
Exodus 17:5–7 (NIV)
5 The LORD answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people.
Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand
the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 I will stand there
before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will
come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the
sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the place Massah and
Meribah because the Israelites quarreled and because they
tested the LORD saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”
The Promise
Exodus 20:1–17 (NIV)
The Ten Commandments
20 And God spoke all these words:
2 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out
of the land of slavery.
3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of
anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the
waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship
them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing
the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth
generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a
thousand generations of those who love me and keep my
commandments.
7 “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the
LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you
shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a
sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any
work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or
female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing
in your towns. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens
and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested
on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath
day and made it holy.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long
in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not
covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his
ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
The Purpose
Galatians 3:17–18 (NIV)
17 What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does
not set aside the covenant previously established by God and
thus do away with the promise. 18 For if the inheritance depends
on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in
his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.

The Affect
Romans 8:3–4 (NIV)
3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened
by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of
sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the
flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be
fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but
according to the Spirit.
The Place
Hebrews 9:8–12 (NIV)
8 The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most
Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first
tabernacle was still functioning. 9 This is an illustration for the
present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered
were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper. 10 They are
only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial
washings—external regulations applying until the time of the new
order.
11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that
are now already here, he went through the greater and more
perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to
say, is not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of
the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place
once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.
