Divine Order: Pt 2 Jeremiah and Me - Quit Your Crying

Pericope: Jeremiah 29:10-14 - 10 This is what the Lord says:
“When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to
you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. 11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to
prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a
future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and
I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you
seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares
the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you
from all the nations and places where I have banished you,”
declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from
which I carried you into exile.”
Sermon Text: Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for
you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm
you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Crying
Romans 8: 28 And we know that in all things God works for the
good of those who love him, who have been called according to
his purpose.
Prov. 3:5-7 - 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways
submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be
wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.
And Matt 6: 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.
Deut. 28:13 13 The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If
you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I
give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at
the top, never at the bottom.
1 Cor 10: 13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is
common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be
tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,
he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Context 1: Mired in the Mess - Jeremiah 38:6 - 6 So they took
Jeremiah and put him into the cistern of Malkijah, the king’s son,
which was in the courtyard of the guard. They lowered Jeremiah
by ropes into the cistern; it had no water in it, only mud, and
Jeremiah sank down into the mud.
Context 2: Stuck in the stocks - Jeremiah 20: 2 he had Jeremiah
the prophet beaten and put in the stocks at the Upper Gate of
Benjamin at the Lord’s temple.
Context 3: Tired of the tears - Jeremiah 9:1 - 1 Oh, that my head
were a spring of water and my eyes a fountain of tears! I would
weep day and night for the slain of my people.
Context 4: Thirst in the turmoil - Jeremiah 20:7-9 - 7 You
deceived me, Lord, and I was deceived
you overpowered me and prevailed.
I am ridiculed all day long;
everyone mocks me.
8 Whenever I speak, I cry out
proclaiming violence and destruction.
So the word of the Lord has brought me
insult and reproach all day long.
9 But if I say, “I will not mention his word
or speak anymore in his name,”
his word is in my heart like a fire,
a fire shut up in my bones.
I am weary of holding it in;
indeed, I cannot.
Context 5: Sustained in solitude - Jeremiah 15: 17 I never sat in
the company of revelers,
never made merry with them;
I sat alone because your hand was on me
and you had filled me with indignation.
1. Toughen you up for greater – Jere 12: 5 “If you have raced
with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can
you compete with horses? if you stumble in safe country,
how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?
2. Gods plan don’t’ replace pain.
3. God’s plans give you the power of purpose to go on Isa.
46:10 - 10 I make known the end from the beginning, from
ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will
stand, and I will do all that I please.’
4. Gods Plans always comes with its rewards Jer. 31: 16 This is
what the Lord says: “Restrain your voice from weeping and
your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded,”
declares the Lord. “They will return from the land of the
enemy.
