Practice Makes Perfect

Practice Makes Perfect
James 1:22-25 - 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.;
Hebrews 10: 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.;
Joshua 1: 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.;
2 Peter 1:3-4 - 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
STEP 1 — KNOW THE PROMISE
Romans 10:17
“Faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.”
2 Peter 1:3-4 God has given us everything we need for life and godliness, and through
STEP 2 — PRACTICE THE PRINCIPLE
James 1:22: “But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says.”
Joshua 1:8 says: “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do
STEP 3 — REPEAT THE PRACTICE
Galatians 6:9 says: “So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up.”
THE WALKING PRINCIPLE
Think about walking. You don't take one giant step. You take: One. Two. Three.
And then you repeat. That's how you walk into the promise.
ONE — BELIEVE IT.
“God said it.” Hebrews 10:23: “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.”
TWO — DO IT.
“Because God said it, I will respond to it.” James 1:22.
THREE — KEEP DOING IT.
“I will not quit because I don't see it yet.” Galatians 6:9.
And then: Repeat.
Believe it.
Do it.
Repeat it.
Believe it.
Do it.
Repeat it.
Until what once required discipline becomes your disposition.
THE PROMISE-PRACTICE CYCLE
PROMISE
God said it.
FAITH
I believe it.
PRACTICE
I live it.
PERSEVERANCE
I keep doing it.
MATURITY
It becomes who I am.
WALKING IN THE PROMISE
I experience what God said.
That's the difference between knowing God's promises and walking in God's promises.
THE THREE PRACTICES OF A PROMISE WALKER
- Practice the Word Don't just read what God said.
- Practice the Way When God gives you a promise, look for the behavior that corresponds with it.
- Practice Until It Becomes Natural At first, trusting God may feel unnatural.
2 Corinthians 1:20 says: “For all of God's promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding ‘Yes!’”
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.
Not perfect as in flawless.
Perfect as in mature.
Perfect as in complete.
Perfect as in ready.
God made the promise.
