Pericope: 1 Kings 2:1-4 - When the time drew near for David to
die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.
2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be
strong, act like a man, 3 and observe what the Lord your God
requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and
commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of
Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and
wherever you go 4 and that the Lord may keep his promise to me:
‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk
faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail
to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’
Sermon Text: 2 Kings 2: 2 “I am about to go the way of all the
earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man
Sermon Title: ManPower
Gen. 1: 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and
increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish
in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature
that moves on the ground.”
And Gen. 2:20-25 - 20 So the man gave names to all the
livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for
Adam[a] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God
caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was
sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[b] and then closed up the
place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the
rib[c] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united
to his wife, and they become one flesh. 25 Adam and his wife
were both naked, and they felt no shame.
2 Kings 2:1-4 - When the time drew near for David to die, he
gave a charge to Solomon his son. 2 “I am about to go the way of
all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, 3 and

him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and
regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you
may prosper in all you do and wherever you go 4 and that
the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch
how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their
heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the
throne of Israel.’

me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk

Psalms 127: 3-5 put it this way children are an inheritance of
the Lord… happy is the man whose quiver is full of them.
Point 2: Leadership – Vs. 6 – 9 - 6 Deal with him according to
your wisdom, … 8 “And remember, … 9 But now, do not consider
him innocent.
Gen 38:9-10 - 9 But Onan knew that the child would not be his; so
whenever he slept with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on
the ground to keep from providing offspring for his brother. 10 What
he did was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death
also.
Point 3: Leaning 1 Kings 3:7, 12-13 - 7 “Now, Lord my God, you
have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am
only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 12 I
will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning
heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will
there ever be. 13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked
for—both wealth and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have
no equal among kings.
