Sermon Title: Destiny Helpers
1 Peter 4:1-4 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm
yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers
in the body is done with sin. 2 As a result, they do not live the rest
of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will
of God. 3 For you have spent enough time in the past doing what
pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness,
orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. 4 They are surprised that
you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap
abuse on you. Tells us all about the sin and sinfulness of Peter’s
Day and today. 1 Peter 4:5-7 5 But they will have to give account
to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6 For this is
the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now
dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards
in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the
spirit. 7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of
sober mind so that you may pray. Tells us how these individuals
who live that way will be judged. Then 1 Peter 4:8-10 . 8 Above all,
love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of
sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each of
you should use whatever gift you have received to serve
others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
Destiny Helper 1: Singled out to serve, 1 Peter 4:10 10 Each of
you should use whatever gift you have received to serve
others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
Destiny Helper 2: A Steward of a gift 1 Peter 4:10 10 Each of you
should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as
faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
Transition: Now lets go deeper after
Destiny Helper 3: To serve with love God’s grace. v10, 1 Peter
4:10 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to
serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various
forms.
1. Be willing to give the shirt off our backs Matthew 5:40 40 And
if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over
your coat as well.
2. Be willing to go the extra mile Mathew 5:41 41 If anyone
forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.
3. Be willing to give of ourselves without any expectation of
getting something back. Luke 14:12-14 12 Then Jesus said to
his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite
your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your
rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so
you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the
poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be
blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid
at the resurrection of the righteous.”
•This can only be done with the power of love
1 Peter 4:8,9; 8 Above all, love each other
deeply, because love covers over a multitude of
sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without
grumbling.
•1 John 4:20 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a
brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love
their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot
love God, whom they have not seen.
