ROMANS 9:1–5 NIV

“I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit—I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people… Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises.”


Reflection Questions

  1. Do I grieve for people far from God or simply criticize them?
  2. How can compassion replace judgment in my spiritual life?


ROMANS 9:6–10 NIV

“For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children… It is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise…”


Reflection Questions

  1. Have I confused religious activity with real relationship?
  2. What area of my life still needs inward transformation?


ROMANS 9:11–15 NIV

“Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God’s purpose in election might stand… she was told, ‘The older will serve the younger.’… ‘I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.’”


Reflection Questions

  1. Have I relied more on performance than grace?
  2. How does God’s mercy reshape the way I see myself and others?


ROMANS 9:16–20 NIV

“It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy… One of you will say to me: ‘Then why does God still blame us?’… But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God?”


Reflection Questions

  1. Where do I struggle trusting God’s wisdom?
  2. How can humility deepen my faith during uncertain seasons?


ROMANS 9:21–25 NIV

“Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?... even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?”


Reflection Questions

  1. Have I treated anyone like they are spiritually beneath me?
  2. How does God’s grace challenge exclusion and superiority?


ROMANS 9:26–33 NIV

“The people who were not my people I will call ‘my people’… What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it… but the people of Israel… have not attained their goal.”


Reflection Questions

  1. Am I trusting more in performance or surrender?
  2. What expectations about God may be blocking deeper faith?


ROMANS 10:1–5 NIV

“Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved… For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.”


Reflection Questions

  1. Is my faith producing transformation or just activity?
  2. Where am I still trying to earn what God freely offers?


ROMANS 10:6–10 NIV

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Salvation involves:

  • inward belief
  • outward allegiance
  • transformed identity


Reflection Questions

  1. Is Jesus truly Lord over every part of my life?
  2. What areas of my life resist full surrender?


ROMANS 10:11–15 NIV

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved… How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?”

Paul emphasizes that salvation is available to all:

  • Jews
  • Gentiles
  • insiders
  • outsiders


Reflection Questions

  1. Who in my life needs to hear the gospel?
  2. How can I become more intentional about sharing my faith?


ROMANS 10:16–21 NIV

“But not all the Israelites accepted the good news… All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”


Reflection Questions

  1. Have I resisted areas where God is reaching toward me?
  2. How can I become more responsive to God’s voice and direction
